Great culture with a focused team - Director Amazon Web Services Employee Review

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.

I will say I grew a lot under the pressure from my mentor to perform and I do thank them for that. I enjoyed my project even though it wasn't the most exciting new thing. Also the Amazon name on any resume is a big plus.

Intern programming was way under resourced; a thousand interns from around the WA offices showed up to an intern mixer and most of them couldn't get in. As an intern observing my team I was able to glean that AWS does not treat their employees well. My org is pretty ruthless at setting deadlines and everyone was working crazy hours and didn't seem very happy with it.
