I applied online. I interviewed at ALDI (Londen, Engeland) in Jul 2017
Interview
I applied online, completed the online test which was quite easy. After a week or so I received an email to book a slot for a group interview.
When I arrived at the store where the interview was taking place I was taken into a kitchenette where already some were waiting. After ten minutes or so an interviewer walked in, she was a very pleasant lady, smiling all the time.
She took us into another room (6 of us) and got us seated around a table. She explained the position, asked whether we have any questions. Then she asked each of us to introduce ourselves and say why we had applied for the position. Here I learned that 2 of the candidates had already worked in retail and took this opportunity to talk about their experience. Mostly the interviewer was interested how flexible we are.
Next read out loud 3 different scenarios one at a time and whoever wanted could say how they would react, then the rest of us was asked to either agree or disagree and say what they would do differently. She read them very quickly so before I could work out what the problem was somebody had already answered.
After this there was a 5 min test, mostly working out totals or the amount of change. For example the total of shopping is £28.78 and the customer pays with 4 £5 notes and a £10 note. How much change will they get?
The mathematical questions were time consuming, I din't finish the test, did 7 out of 10.
The interviewer told us she would let us know by the end of the week (my interview was on Thursday) regardless we were successful or not. The next step would be working experience. I still haven't heard from them and it has been more than 2 weeks now. I still hope I will hear from Aldi soon.

Interview
Graduates beware, if you are looking at this role to gain experience for the graduate scheme, don't bother. If you're unsuccessful you can't apply for 12 months.
Aldi offered me an interview, but had no intention of taking me (they didn't make me do Maths questions or ask questions off the hiring sheet)
I filled out the questionnaire online, plus added a supporting statement, detailing what I know about Aldi and why Aldi etc.
I received an email asking me to pick an interview slot, I applied for the Hucknall branch but the interview was for a different branch (Radford). I thought they changed the store due to the hours I picked, but at the interview they said it was a 25 hour contract (more hours than I originally wanted - 17 - 20 hours).
At the interview they were not interested in what I knew about Aldi or my relevant skills. They literally just asked me why I had applied. Afterwards they told me I'd know in 24 hours, it took over a week for them to get back to me and tell me I was unsuccessful.

Interview
I applied for the position of store assistant and the first was a series of online questions, some basic maths and situational questions, all of which were multi choice.
Within a few days I received an email inviting me to an individual assessment. This consisted of an interview with the area manager during which I was given another 10 multi choice questions with 5 minutes to complete them. Just basic maths stuff again and being able to pick out correct barcodes and products.
For a job interview it was fairly relaxed. I initially had to go through my life history and then I was asked why I wanted to work at Aldi, and what qualities and abilities I could apply to the role. There was also one scenario based question about a customer dropping some eggs on the floor and what you would do.
Later that day I received an email inviting me to a store experience day. Mine was a week later and consisted of 2 hours in my local store where I spoke to the manager, assistant manager, and worked with some of the staff doing various roles to see if it still appealed.
Although I was told it may take a few days to hear if I was successful, I received an email with a job offer within hours.

Question 1
After going through my life history I was asked why I wanted to work at Aldi and what skills and abilities I could bring to the role as I had no previous retail experience. Other than that it was a general chat and explanation of the role.
