I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Apple in Aug 2019
Interview
I applied to a position as a senior software engineer in Europe in 2019. I was contacted three months after I had sent my application over the web platform. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager first and then an on site interview. The hiring manager and rest of the team were very nice and polite.
In contrast, I found the recruiter quite unprofessional. I wrote him an email a week after my interview - no response. I wrote him a week later, again no response. I called him after three weeks, he said he was in a meeting and he would call me back later. Of course he never called me back. A week later I called him again and he told me they took someone else for the position. He was even surprised that nobody had notified me. I wonder why was he so surprised if he just ignored all of my emails. The other recruiters involved in the process also did not do their job properly: they gave me an address for the onsite interview that was impossible to find without a further clarification.
As a reason for the rejection, the recruiter mentioned that they had the feeling that the other candidates had more practical experience in iOS development. I am not sure I can trust this, since based on my experience with this recruiter, he might just have given me some random feedback to get me out of the way. Assuming this is actually true, it irritates me that during the interview I was actually barely asked about my iOS experience. The few technical questions on iOS I was asked I was able to answer smoothly. Instead, I was mostly asked to describe my previous experience / projects. I focused on the most challenging projects I had worked on lately, which were related to the description in the opening, but were no iOS projects. If they had asked me for my experience with iOS technologies, I could have talked for hours on them, as I have 4 apps in the app store and two of them are considerably complex.

I applied for multiple jobs on the website and then was reached by the recruiter.
What is really annoying that recruiters don't give any feedback or reply about the what should be the next step.
You may take very long time to hear back from the recruiter, they don't respect the candidates
