      Data Scientist Interview

      Jun 28, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Londen, Engeland
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Checkout.com (Londen, Engeland) in May 2021

      Interview

The interview process consisted of several rounds: - HR screening interview - interview with hiring manager (mostly about motivation) - take home test (2 days) - final round, which had 4 sub-sections. All the interviews were very friendly, the atmosphere was always good, helped me to stay relaxed. The results of each interview was quite quick, except the final outcome. But it was worth the wait.

      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Checkout.com in Jan 2026

      Interview

recruiter - HM and SQL - applied stat - pm interview - director interview. A lot of behavioural but also great technical questions. Generally fast, experience is good. Really glad there is no take home task anymore. Nice bunch of people to meet, professional and nice.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

HM interviews have behavioural questions and SQL. SQL is not difficult albeit with many conditions (convoluted is the word, so be detail-oriented. The applied stat question I think is bit hard so know the ins and outs of AB test and causal inference really well, and familiarise yourself with the product space. Product management interview is interviewed actually like a PM interview, and then the director interview is behavioural focused

      Data Scientist Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Checkout.com

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to me. After the hiring manager round I had a take home assessment test. Very easy and basic questions around how to build a model, target variable, features etc. However, I heard nothing after a while and reached out to the recruiter if there are any updates. The recruiter told me the HM thinks the answer to be written using GPT. I explained I have 10years of experience in building Models. Recruiter apologized too. But then I immediately realized I do not want to join a team with such a cynical manager who cannot even come up with relevant feedback for the candidates. So I told him I guess HM should invest more time in preparing quality questions or quality hiring process to deal with such ambiguous situations. They should not create lazy uninteresting questions which they think an LLM can answer. Dodged a bullet.

      Data Scientist Interview

      Parijs
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Checkout.com (Parijs) in Oct 2024

      Interview

The worst hiring process I have ever encountered. There was a complete disregard for the candidate's time and effort. It’s best not to waste your valuable time on an interview here, as they clearly don’t care about it. I was invited for an initial HR chat for the Data Scientist position in Paris. After that I had an initial hiring manager call. Till then, my experience was positive. After that, the disaster starts to unfold. I was asked to complete a "Data Science" challenge and submit it within one week. Upon receiving the challenge, I asked a clarification about the task to the HR, which was never answered. Usually, companies provide clarification when requested, especially if you’re expected to spend a week on an assignment — this lack of response was a significant red flag. After submitting the assignment, I asked the HR to acknowledge its proper receipt. Again, no reply. If you go through the other negative reviews about this particular position in Glassdoor, you will see that the company ghosts candidates after they submit the assignments. So, I was quite sure that this was happening with me. But, I was mistaken. It turned out to be even worse! Two weeks after submitting the assignment, I receive an email that the position was closed due to "internal structural changes". When, I asked the HR about why I was made to waste one week of my time when the company was itself not sure about the position, the HR very apologetically replied to me that there had been a mix up regarding a different position they were recruiting for and my profile ended up on a list where it shouldn't have been! Then he said that he confirmed with the team that the review was positive and he gave me two dates to choose from to appear for the next "onsite" task-review interview at their office. Then, I was given a description of what to expect in the task-review interview and I was told that the HR was working with the team to get some availability on their sides as the initial suggested dates were not available. I had almost forgiven them, but no, they had other tricks to pull up behind their sleeves! Three weeks after receiving the last message, when I approached them once more for an update, the HR tells me that after a second "deeper" review of my previous task they are not moving ahead with me. Also, they provided me with an unsatisfactory feedback (very superficial, does not align with the expectation of the task). Overall, it was the most horrible interview experience for me. The repeated miscommunications and the lack of respect for the candidates is beyond comprehension. No candidate should be made to go through so much suffering for the utter lack of professionalism on their behalf.
