      Executive Assistant Interview

      Mar 10, 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Londen, Engeland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Checkout.com (Londen, Engeland) in Dec 2021

      Interview

The interview process was very smooth and well communicated. After the initial screening the process was explained to me thoroughly so I knew what to expect. Throughout the scheduling process I was kept in the loop and always felt like I had a good idea of when my interviews would be. Once confirmed my interviews weren't moved and ran very smoothly. There were 3 interview stages including the initial screening, following each stage I received detailed feedback and an update on the next steps. I met a variety of people which gave me substantial insight into the business, informing my decision to eventually accepting an offer. I really enjoyed the interview process.

      Executive Assistant Interview

      Feb 28, 2022
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Checkout.com (New York, NY) in Jan 2022

      Interview

The biggest red flag for me was their refusal to have me interview with any of the executives who needed support. Given that the EA/Exec relationship is *crucial* to success in an EA role, this was mind-boggling to me. Throughout the interview process as well as my time at the company, I very much felt that I was treated as dispensable, temporary help rather than as a partner to build a relationship with. I left within the first month of starting and the person who was hired alongside myself left during her first week. The biggest reason I left was because they bait and switched me. I am okay with change. I am not okay with being lied to. I was told in the interview process that the role would be temp to perm covering 3 execs and they were very much looking to have this person convert to perm. Once I started, I found out very quickly that they had already hired 2 permanent EAs to support 2 of the execs I was supposed to be supporting and I was basically temporarily covering until they officially started and another EA came back from her vacation! I scheduled an intro call with my Exec and after telling her a little bit about myself, my work process, and my values, the very first thing she asked me was, “....How long are you here for again?” My jaw almost dropped. Others in the company would say things like, “next week is your last week right?” Not to my knowledge lol! I had declined an offer with another company and exited out of the interview process with another to accept the role with Checkout. Huge mistake. Everyone was under the impression that I was just at Checkout.com for a few weeks - something that had never been directly communicated with me. I directly asked the third Exec I was supposed to support if she also had a permanent EA coming in the next couple of weeks. She told me she did not! The very next day, their internal recruiter emailed *me* to schedule a final EA interview with this very same exec. You can not make this stuff up. Of course, I quit shortly thereafter. Never received any sort of apology for being asked to dig my own grave. Did they have any sort of intention to eventually place me as support for another (not yet hired) executive...maybe? Given the complete lack of communication and transparency, I wasn't willing to stick around and find out. All in all, the communication culture and flow of information was pretty bad. Nothing was ever clearly communicated or transparently disclosed.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave us such a detailed review. We were under the impression that the expectations for this role and the terms of the contract were clear from the outset, and repeatedly affirmed during your time with us. But from your review, clearly that doesn’t seem to be your experience and it looks like further clarity would have been helpful here. We would never want anyone who works with us to feel misled or undervalued, so we apologise that it looks like that was the case here. We’ve shared all of your feedback with the relevant teams that your review touches on to ensure we do better next time. Thanks again for the time spent collating and sharing your thoughts here and we wish you all the best in your next role. The People Team
