After an initial application on their website (CV + Covering Letter), I heard back within a few days and had a short telephone interview with a member of their HR team. This call was more of an informal chat about myself and my reasons for wanting to join the company. The interviewer was very friendly and approachable, showing genuine interest in my background and projecting a good view of the company. Following the call a face-to-face interview was arranged for the following week at their depot.
The face-to-face interview was very unprofessional, and similar to other reviewers, gave me a bad impression of the company. After arriving 15 minutes early I was ushered straight into the interview room and made to wait. The interview room was no bigger than a 1.5 meter square with a small table, no windows and a solid door. Clearly, whoever had designed the office had expected the room to be used for storage. Once my interviewers arrived we barely had room to move. The interview itself was a mix of standard interview questions, competency questions read from a booklet and one scenario question. Midway through the interview the light in the room went off, caused by lack of motion in the adjoining office.
My impression of the company from my end of interview questions was mixed, whilst the office seemed like a fun, social place to work, the expectations regarding hours on top of those contracted seemed very high. My interviewer explained that he had been working 7 days a week recently due to expansion and regularly had to stay late at the office.
Since my interview (4 weeks ago) I have heard nothing from the company, no rejection, no invitation to the next stage of the process, no update on my progress and no feedback from the interview. While the face-to-face interview was unprofessional, I normally would have overlooked this, however, the lack of contact from HelloFresh has been appalling. Frankly it is rude, considering the effort and expense of travelling to the interview.
