I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Navan (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2019
Interview
The interview process was relatively standard for a design position at an established startup - phone screen with a recruiter, portfolio walkthrough with a senior designer, interview with the CPO, and a 3hr onsite. The part that I found super disrespectful was that after the onsite (which I traveled all the way from SF to Palo Alto for, so it took my entire day)....I never heard back from them. I followed up, still silence. After putting so much time and effort into the interview process, I'm astounded that they would ghost me as a candidate. I understand that they're busy, but that is very disrespectful and unprofessional.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked standard questions, the hardest of which was of course the design challenge during the onsite. They conducted this part with all the interviewers in the room, which was intimidating yet nice to bounce ideas off them all.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm so sorry to hear that you never heard back from us after your interview. We strive to deliver a great candidate experience with every single candidate and I'm so sorry that we let you down. I will provide this feedback to our product and talent team, and make sure they are aware of the importance of updating candidates after their interviews. Thank you again for your feedback and we wish you all the best in your search!
I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Navan in Feb 2019
Interview
Spoke to a recruiter and product manager. Was asked to complete a design task that should take no more than 48 hours. The brief was loosely defined, lacked actionable insights, and essentially asked you to redesign their entire flight booking flow.
After turning over the task, I didn't hear anything for a week and a half. I followed up with the recruiter, and was told twice that the team was on the fence. Upon hearing this the second time, I decided it to be in both our best interests to end the interview process. I provided feedback that I thought they may find valuable, however I received no response.
