I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Navan (Palo Alto, CA) in Dec 2019
Interview
I received a call from the recruiter and was able to quickly schedule a phone screen. The interview asked some algo/ds questions with reasonable candidate expectations. I got the feedback the next day and was invited onsite. They are willing to move slow or fast depending on the candidate's timelines.
I had around 4 interviews onsite. 1Behavioral, 2 Design, 1Coding. Everyone was super friendly and the recruiter gave me feedback the next day itself. At all points of the process, everyone was willing to answer my questions. My overall experience was very positive. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, I had to decline the offer. I hope to work with them at some point in the future!
Thank you for sharing the context of your interview. We are glad you had a positive experience!

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Navan (Palo Alto, CA) in Nov 2019
Interview
Pretty standard process. One tech phone screen and 4 onsite interviews. Questions were not that difficult. At least one interviewer was not clear with what he wanted. Kept changing his requirements. Very poor communication. I would say try saving your time if you are looking for a productive interview.

I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Navan in Aug 2019
Interview
TripActions interview process was a mess.
When the recruiter asks you over the phone, do you have experience with Hibernate, it should trigger a red flag. It’s a clear indication that they are focusing too much on toolset skills, and not on problem solving.
I told that I have not used Hibernate, and my resume has no mention of it. I still was called for an on site. The interview was a mixed experience. Two of the people showed up very late to the interview, one was late by 10 minutes. One did not show up, and they were unable to find someone else to take that spot.
Some engineers were smart and might be nice as co-workers. But as an overall strategy, they had no idea on how to conduct interviews. Some of the non-technical questions were weird, the world has moved away from such questions for technical software engineering interviews. In general, I came out with a very negative impression for the non-technical folks.
I was told later, that my skill set is better suited for a different group, as this group needs HIbernate skills, and already has senior engineers and can I come back for another interview with a different group. How disrespectful can you be? I took a day off to come for the interview. They didn’t even do the due diligence on skill set match or seniority expectations, people showed up late for interviews, and the recruiter calmly suggested I should come back for another interview. Are you kidding me?
I was given ballpark numbers on compensation at that stage, but I politely said that I have accepted another offer, even though I hadn’t and moved on.
They are also thinking of themselves as a Unicorn, with success guaranteed and their offer did not have much of an equity. The company has a good business opportunity, but as a software engineer, you may not adequately share the success with this little equity. I would not recommend wasting your time and energy interviewing with them.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a positive experience interviewing with us. While we are unable to make excuses for the tardiness from your interviewers, we would like to apologize on their behalf. Candidate experience is one of our greatest values at TripActions, so your feedback will be of great help as we train and enable our interviewers over the next few months. Our Talent Team also works very hard to ensure we place candidates in the role that is the best fit for their background and sadly, that does not always happen during the first round of interviews. Your experience is clearly impressive as we invited you back for another round of interviews and we hope to interview more efficiently moving forward. Thank you again for sharing your feedback, best of luck to you!
