Interview
I recently interviewed with S&P Global and appreciated the opportunity to engage with the team. As part of the process, I was asked to prepare a 10-minute presentation on a topic of my choice to deliver during the interview. I invested a significant amount of time preparing thoughtful content and ensuring it was well-structured and professional.
During the interview itself, the hiring manager joined late and concluded the presentation precisely at the 10-minute mark, which made the interaction feel somewhat rigid given the interruption. Throughout the presentation, the engagement level with the manager felt limited, and there was minimal interaction or follow-up discussion on the material presented.
Following the presentation, I was asked a question about calculating the degree between clock hands at a specific time. While I understand that some interviews incorporate problem-solving elements, this question did not appear to be related to the responsibilities of the role and felt disconnected from the position’s core competencies.
The interview ended promptly at the scheduled time despite the manager joining late, and I later received a generic email indicating they would not be moving forward. While I respect the decision, given the preparation required for the presentation component, more personalized feedback would have been appreciated.
Overall, the process felt structured but somewhat impersonal. I value interview experiences that allow for meaningful dialogue and alignment around role expectations, and I hope future candidates have opportunities for a more interactive exchange.
