Traineeship TNO - Graduate Programmer Interview

      Nov 24, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Haag
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TNO (Haag) in Nov 2019

      Interview

I applied online. The process has 3 different steps. First, documents check (CV, motivation letter, etc.). On a positive outcome, the second is a full day interview (2 interviews, a group assignment, and a pitch) and an online test. On a positive outcome, the third is a personal test. I passed the first step, I was invited for the second, but I was not selected and invited for the third.

      Question 1

A full selection day for the trainees that applied to this position was organized at the TNO headquarters (Den Haag). Before the selection day, it was necessary to carry out some online tests on personality and intelligence (after the selection process, they provided a detailed report of the results of both tests). 24 candidates were selected between all the ones that applied, and they took part in the selection day. On the day, all candidates had a program scheduled consisting of: interviews with the research managers of some departments related to the candidate background and with a trainee and the HR, a group assignment, a pitch, and a meeting & greet session with trainers and people working at TNO. - Interview with the research managers: the research managers are of an area that came across your studies, skills, and experiences. The interview was easy, they asked me questions about my studies, experience, and technical background. It's not difficult if you know what you're talking about and you can talk about it in a way that the manager understands - Interview with the trainee and the HR: they asked more personal questions based on my CV and application: why did I choose this study and this career path? Where do I see myself in five years? Hobby? How I define myself? What do I want to do? What do I like about this company? Etc. - Pitch: the candidate had 1 minute to teach something to the other candidates and the TNO employees without using any PowerPoint presentation. This is mainly done to see how you present things. - Meet & Greet: it was a session with 7-8 other candidates and 2 former trainers. This was just to ask the former trainers all kinds of questions. If they like the position, how is it working at TNO, how is the working environment, etc. - Group assignment: groups of 5 candidates were created and in 30 minutes we had to choose which between the two members had to go to Mars. In the end, we had to motivate the choice made. There was someone watching, taking notes and evaluating the teamwork of the group members. After all this, there was an informal "job fair" where you can talk to research managers and trainees from different areas in a more relaxed area. In the end, 9 out of thirty 24 were selected for the next round. We received the results 3-4 days after the selection process.
