I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at The Home Depot in Sep 2011
Interview
Applied online and got a voice mail a few days later to call a 1888 number to set up a time for an interview at one of the Home Depots I had applied to online. Went in, talked to the HR person who went over my resume and asked a few behavioral interview questions, basically about giving good customer service and sales experience. She then went and got the store manager who looked over my resume and the HR reps notes, he asked me a couple of more behavioral interview questions related to servicing the customer and then he offered me the job on the spot. I was given the paper work to take the drug test and when that and the background test came back I was given a date to come in for training. All told the process took about 2 weeks. The pay is about 1/3 of what I made on my last job and they would only hire me as part time, but after being out of work for more than 2 years.....
Couple of tips if you're interested in the Depot:
- Apply online for multiple stores. I chose all the stores that were within 30 miles of my house. There are stores all over the place, especially if you live in the Atlanta GA area, and it increases your chances of being called by one of them even if it's not the one closest to where you live
-Wear nice clothes, you don't have to wear a suit, but clean khakis and a nice shirt will differentiate you from the folks who come in wearing ripped jeans and a ratty t-shirt. Even though at Home Depot you can come to work in jeans remember this is an interview.
-Think of some stories that you can relate to customer service. You don't have to be in sales or even in a job that directly deals with the public to have a customer, in any job you have a customer, someone who depends on your work output, the customer can be internal or external so think of some ways that you delivered to your customer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time that you delivered outstanding customer service.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at The Home Depot (North Tustin, CA) in May 2011
Interview
Was well excepted and excellent at all the preliminary screening and telephone interviews (both computere automated and person questions response) . Placed myself in a person to person interview and looked to be doing well, until I noticed the manager was not noting any information on the sheet.
I was told that there was only 3 candidates for 3 jobs and ALL would be contacted. I queried the resource center, left messages for HR. went to the offices again and posted notes. I did not receive the courtesy of a reply ... to this day.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Killeen, TX) in Oct 2011
Interview
I applied online for several positions. I recieved an email about a week later staing that they were interested and would call me or I could call them. I called the number and went through an automated q/a period then an actual person asked me a few questions. mostly verifying my info and a few hypotheticals but i dont remember them. I ws then called by the hiring manager for an interview. It went pretty easy. She asked me a few questions that would be normaly ask during any interview then there were about ten structered questions such as name a time when you had to deal with an angry customer etc. about a week or so later i was called to an interview with a regional operations manger and regional Asset Protection manger. regular interview and pretty easy. after a few self describing questions it was suggested that I lean more towards a supervisor position due to my past experience and my goals. They told me that they were going to call the local store manager to find out what openings were available and go from there. That was today. I am eagerly awaiting me next phone call. Update: After a total of six interviews for both asset protection and department supervisor i was finaly offered a part time job at 9.10 an hour. what an insult! i wasted a month and a half of my time and drove to three different stores to be offered a part time job that i didnt apply for. no wonder home depot is going down hill. they hire managers that are clueless. If you apply at the killeen tx store be prepared for a part time job. They look at ful time as a promotion. quickly declined the offer.
