short intro by the manager, then short intro of me, then we went straight to the system design question. the interview went for 90 min and revolved around relational DB

Question 1
the question was how to stream data from a relational DB to a cloud data lake in near real-time. The real catch was figuring out how to keep everything transactionally safe - how do you make sure the data lake writes those updates in the exact same order.
I applied online. I interviewed at Tipalti in Aug 2025
Interview
The first three interviews were positive and well-structured.
My experience with the final interview was less positive. The interviewer joined from a conference room and was seated far from the camera, asking questions about my resume. They focused a lot on why I worked for certain companies, why I did freelance during a certain year, and nothing about the role or my experience. Then I got rejected after that interview.
Shortly after receiving the rejection, I noticed the same position was reposted with a salary range that appeared to be more than $10,000 lower than the compensation originally advertised.

Question 1
Why did you work freelance in 2021 for one year?
Why do yo have 5 months gap?
30 minutes that mostly detailed the role and expectations, territory and comfort carrying a quota. Very few questions about myself and more about Tipalti. The challenge for me was that the role was for the US market. Not a fan of travel to the US.
