Marketing Manager - Copywriter & Content Strategist Interview

      Apr 29, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Uber (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2016

      Interview

I found their interview process unprofessional from the beginning. I was referred by a former colleague who now works for Uber. She wrote me a glowing recommendation. I heard from a recruiter who asked me via email to schedule a half-hour time slot to talk on his calendar via an online calendar program. I set a time to talk (the calendar only shows free time slots on his calendar.) About 4 days go by. The day before we are scheduled to talk, he emails me saying that time won't work, and asks me to pick another time. I go back onto his virtual calendar and pick another time he is free. A few more days go by. The day of the interview (3 hours before it is scheduled), he tells me he won't be able to make it and once again to reschedule. I do this. Again. The day of the phone screen arrives. Our chat is supposed to last a half hour. It's scheduled for 4pm PST. 20 minutes past 4 and I hadn't heard a peep from him, even after emailing him at 4:10 to ask if this was still happening. He calls at 4:30, offers an insincere apology, and proceeds to tell me about the role and tell me the "absolute highest" he could go with salary, which he says is in the mid-60s (and that's not even what they would necessarily offer me.) I knew based on other GlassDoor reviews that there would be a "creative test" coming and I was curious. He sent the test, and I turned it in after working on it for at least 6 hours. Just as prior interviewees have stated, these are very time-consuming tests. A day and a half after turning in my test, I received the "thanks but no thanks" form email. I may not have been what they were looking for, but if the unprofessionalism displayed from the start of the process is any indication, I probably wouldn't have fit in with the company anyway.

      Question 1

Talked more about the role and salary, didn't really ask me any questions.
