I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Uber in Mar 2017
Interview
I received an interview via employee referral. First, I had a phone screen with technical recruiter who just discussed my resume and asked some basic questions regarding my skills, programming languages I am comfortable with, etc.
At the end of the phone-screen, they sent me a technical challenge.
Question 1: SQL queries.
Question 2: KPI metric design/evaluation.
Question 3: Short programming assignment involving a ML question on a synthetic Uber dataset.
After technical challenge, they scheduled another phone interview with a data scientist. In this interview, we mainly discussed my research project because it was closely related to Uber. We went into details of somethings. Overall, it was a very nice discussion giving me an insight into team structure and kind of work each team is doing in their Seattle office.
I was offered an internship after this phone interview. Throughout the interview process, I received very good feedback on how I did in each round, and the turnaround time between each interview round and their feedback was impressively small. It was a pretty fast process.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I chose to decline the offer, as offer negotiation failed.

I applied online. I interviewed at Uber (San Jose, CA) in May 2026
Interview
My interview started with a stats coding round where I was asked to code for expected value for a problem and the second interview was a case study which was quite easy
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Expected value for a dice problem and a case study about a Uber problem
The process was smooth and well organized. A recruiter initially reached out, followed by a first round consisting of two interviews—one with the team manager and another with a data scientist, both engaging and informative.
