I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Uber (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2015
Interview
It was surprisingly hard to secure an interview in the first place. Uber was the first company where I had to use employee referral just to reach someone from HR. I did not have any problems getting an interview in any of the top5 companies in the Bay Area .
The phone screen with a hiring manager was quick an easy. I was prepared to a difficult coding challenge, but was really baffled by how simple the actual problem was.
The onsite interview process was pleasant and very friendly, not intimidating at all. The day started with a culture fit interview with a hiring manager and HR. The rest of the day was equally divided into coding and design questions. After leaving the office I was very happy with my performance during the interview and was almost sure I got the job. However, a few days later I received a polite, but standard response from HR saying that the team decided not to extend an offer to me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard coding exercises you'll find in any interview preparation book, with some math/probability followup questions. Design questions were meant to test the general knowledge of modern development frameworks/design principles.
Very smooth, interviewers were friendly, on-site and all interviews in the same day. Managed to grab lunch and talk about the company culture. Good guidance throughout the process. Two coding, two system design, one bar raiser, one hiring manager.

I applied online. I interviewed at Uber in May 2026
Interview
The interview process begins with an initial BFS screening to evaluate overall fit and relevant experience, followed by three virtual onsite interviews that focus on coding ability, an in-depth discussion of technical background and past projects, as well as behavioral and collaboration-related questions to assess communication and teamwork skills.
