I applied online. I interviewed at Walmart (Concord, NH) in Sep 2024
Interview
Casual and friendly conversation with manager and tour of store. Went over typical schedule and general information about responsibilities. Asked about future plans and goals for advancement. Asked about pay and benefits.
Great interview brief to the point and fair thorough description of the job duties and pay they were up front about the hours what I would be doing and it felt like a overall genuine process

Interview
It took me a while to even get a call back and schedule an interview. During the interview, I met my future Walmart coach. I had already left him a resume, but I came prepared with another copy in case he might have lost it. And that was good, because he did not have my resume with him. So, I gave him the copy and we sat down at a table in the employees' area. He only asked very basic questions about my previous job that could be answered in less than 10 secs. Almost yes/no questions. He then told me what the position was about. He seemed very disconnected from our conversation, and his body language and tone sounded as if I was bothering him by having the interview. As if I had interrupted something important when I got there at my scheduled time. He had my resume in his hand throughout the interview, and he didn't even read it. 10 mins in, and the interview was over. He discussed compensation, but not benefits. He didn't talk about anything else. It felt as if I was doing an interview for a temp agency, and even worse than that.
Of course, at the time, I didn't know it, but this was a reflection of the actual workplace culture that most Walmarts have. Very disorganized, fast-paced, and a workforce development program that feels like smoke and mirrors, which actually hides the true toxic and hostile culture. Needless to say, I left the job due to the number of employee relations violations and instances of multiple non-OSHA-compliant practices.
