Pros

Work in all aspects of a terminal operation

Cons

No formal training. On the job only--which means you will depend on your co workers alone to learn and many aint sharing information too busy protecting their jobs and promotion. Company is busy making you fulfill more than 5 different roles to avoid hiring experts or offering formal training beyond basic introduction to the company. There's a large learning curve for operations and computer systems with specialized software. Training goes to H1-B visa holders who get the training in their home country and are imported labor-for cheaper pay. Local hires are at the mercy of ruthlessly unprofessional "managers" "directors" and "engineers" who are hell bent on getting new terminal projects/equipment implementated with lots of testing and failures on a daily basis. This environment shares no similarities with a respectful, professional workplace. No development for your career or mentorship whatsoever.--yet you will be held accounbtable for performance. How? your guess is as good as mine. No work life balance and No overtime pay. Noone discussses salaries and you will be given the lowest one possible. No office, no perks.

Pros

Exposure to maritime logistics and transportation

Cons

An extremely Toxic work environment to begin or develop a career! Get ready to hear every curse word in the book and then some, not only from Union labor, or coworkers but managers themselves. Also, coworkers exhibit some of the most toxic, conniving, subversive traits of any industry -often with management support. Despite your expertise, education and years of service get ready to be passed up for promotions while those who belong to the good ol’ boy network and co worker clicks give their buddies positions that are neither earned or have the expertise. In a single word: An Absolute Cesspool. Salaries are below market for the Los Angeles area taxed at 30%. Non existent work life balance, offices that look like an abandoned office building with dirty carpets, old toilets , and legacy work systems . Also, as a Maersk subsidiary APM Terminals Lis Angeles fails miserably at Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Upper Management are a great majority white males, lower positions are people of color but primarily males. If you’re a women this place is only friendly towards females who look a certain way—lots of insecure, domineering male egos who detest assertive and intelligent women.
