I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Backbase in Feb 2021
Interview
The interview process for me was consist in 4 stages:
- Interview with Recruiter
- Code challenge
- Interview with engineers
- Interview with managers
Interview with Recruiter:
General questions about career and experience.
Code challenge:
7 days to develop a REST API game in Java with good practices and tests.
The challenge is not easy but not hard as well, I believe they are more focused on the design, quality and architectural decisions.
Interview with engineers:
Questions about the code challenge, performance, technology, professional experience and way of working. Nothing too hard like Big Techs interviews.
Interview with managers:
Again questions about professional experience and way of working and a overview about the company sector you are about to work.
Conclusion:
I liked the interview process, focused on experience, personal profile and the technical challenge that seems to be appropriate for the job description.

There were 3 rounds of interviews:
- First is a technical exam
- Second is a face to face technical interview (online)
- Third and last is with the Delivery Director
Overall, I really enjoyed the interview process
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
For the technical exam, I believe it is their way to gauge your technical skills and knowledge about the programming language.
For the face to face, it is more of an in-depth way to know your expertise with the tech stack used.
I applied online. I interviewed at Backbase (Amsterdam) in Oct 2020
Interview
There were extremely straight forward.
Giving proper feedback at every single step of the process. Overall was one of the best interview process that I ever attended.
If you don't pass, rest assure they won't left you hanging.
