I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Penguin Random House (New York, NY) in Apr 2019
Interview
I applied online, then had a phone screen with HR, then in-person interview with HR, hiring manager, and another member of the team. All pleasant, professional but approachable. Balance of asking questions about my background while also describing the position, department, and how it fits it overall corporate goals.
Tip: Even for those applying to positions not directly making or selling books, expect to have an answer about what you like to read.
questions on an online form, did not ask for cv or cover letter. be prepared for questions such as tell us about a time you worked out a problem with someone you disagreed with etc. no interview at this stage.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Penguin Random House (New York, NY) in May 2018
Interview
The interview process was definitely a lengthy one. I applied for the summer internship program when the application first went up in February, and had a phone interview with HR in April. I then answered follow-up questions from a specific department in mid-May, and interviewed with that department in person at the end of May. I finally started working there in June.
