Fairly straightforward process: phone interview, homework, on-site with range of 1:1s across product, engineering, design + a bar raiser + product design jam session. The people were nice, and Uber has a lot of growth opportunities. Know why Uber and why you're interested in the group, bring ideas for how to improve the product; have answers for all the behavioral questions in Cracking the PM interview.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Uber
Interview
I was referred in by my friend, and they got back to me the same day with a project. They give you 5 days for the project, and it takes a lot of your time, so be prepared for that. If all goes well, within a few weeks you hear back for 2 30 min phone interviews. I did those but was unprepared for the depth of questions they asked.
I was impressed by the professionalism of the interviews though, and they did a great job explaining Uber's culture. I was also impressed by their respect for the engineering organization - this matters to me as a previous engineer now turned product manager. Lastly, I could tell they were super smart. I would have loved to work with them but didn't move on to the onsite.
I applied online. I interviewed at Uber in Oct 2015
Interview
The first round is "homework," which is a case that you submit to them. After that you have 2 phone interviews, and then the final round is at their headquarters in San Francisco. It was straightforward. I applied online and the recruiter contacted me with the case study. I didn't make it past that, but the email described the full process.
