Pros

The company has great potential, a lot of genius people and it's a young company. The international aspect makes it interesting, because you get in touch with people from all over the world. If you love drinks, partying and working extra hours with low recognition. This is the place for you.

Cons

I believe that Lightspeed can be a great company if you work in HQ Montreal. When I talked to colleagues from Montreal it was like they where talking about a whole other company. The culture difference was a big isseu to me, because it was not always appreciated when you share your opinion. The vibe in the office was like being at a student fraternity, not really the place for me. People gossip a lot to make themselves look better. If you are not a developer or in sales, you will not get the recognition you deserve.

Looks good on the outside, but stumbling on the inside

Pros

The people can be amazing, provided you stay in your lane so to say. There's free lunch! Codebase is very clean. Proper structure in development + testing.

Cons

Lots of games. Coming back to the aforementioned point of people, if you make waves and point out things that could be improved, be prepared to be treated like an outsider. Management impedes progress and stifles innovation, very little to zero flexibility. Out of touch with their customers' needs. Used to be customer centric, but not anymore. Some tasks cannot be linked to a customers' needs, and it's frustrating to build something you know the customers don't want and/or need. There is little trust in the people. The company lacks direction and a clear vision. A lot of people are more concerned with looking like they work, while actually doing nothing at all.

We are sorry to hear that your experience at Lightspeed didn’t match what we intend for our employees. We want to ensure that issues are addressed. We are a big promoter of honesty and transparency and we have a culture of constant improvement; feedback from our employees helps us evolve the way we do things. As you mentioned, employees are our greatest asset and we do everything we can to provide a great work environment. As a fast-paced business that is always evolving and growing, that can result in rapid shift in business priorities and lead to changes in our organizational structure. As a growing organization, we are always looking at new and better ways to do business and support our employees and leaders. In the end we are all looking to have a positive work environment where you can confide in your leaders and colleagues alike.
