I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Cape Town) in Aug 2015
Interview
Two phone interviews after which was to be an in person interview. You have to pass the previous interview to be taken for the next stage. I failed the second phone interview so I did not move on to the in person interviews. It was average in difficulty but I failed the second phone interview because some of the stuff asked were things I had done before but never needed to do again so I never had them fresh in my head e.g adding a new partition and mounting it on your machine is not something you do often.

Second Interview (was OS focused): Can you explain the Linux boot process?, How do you install a package in Ubuntu? What does apt-get update do? What does apt-get upgrade do? Interview
Long, exhausting, challenging in some aspects, not in others.
It is not an interview for the average ubuntu linux administrator if you want to get a good salary.
Get your eyes to read and learn enterprise networking and distributed stuff, and vertical and horizontal scaling (and when each is right).
Also, this is no rat lab company from my point of view, they look for people who can take some pressure and can deal with conflict, and they will push it on the interview (ie. ask the same thing 10 times, even in different wording).
