I interviewed with Checkout.com. The process included HR, technical interviews, and a take-home assessment on their payment gateway API. The instructions emphasized not over-engineering and to meet the requirements, which I did.
During the interview, I explained my design choices and ideas for improvements like health checks and enhanced logging, which the interviewers said made sense. However, I was rejected because they expected more in these areas.
The team was professional, but future candidates might benefit from clearer guidance on how far solutions should go beyond the stated requirements.
Up until the system design it was really friendly. Then it became the most embarrassing interview I’ve ever had.
The guy visually facepalmed and laughed if I said something he didn’t like. Asking a lot of trick questions and said hashing the API Key when storing in the database doesn’t make any sense. 😆
