I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Tesco (Barnstaple, Engeland) in Sep 2010
Interview
I walked into the room and was met by the checkout manager who interviewed me. The interview was a few questions about what I have done previously and overall was not a challenging interview. After the interview I was shown the door and was told that I should get a response within a week and after a few days I received a phone call offering me the job.

I passed the online assessments and had a telephone interview for a summer internship, it lasted about thirty minutes and the interviewer was friendly, next step assessment centre. Here are the questions I was asked, although I can't remember the exact order:
1) Tell me a bit about yourself- uni course, work experience, hobbies etc.
2) What is Tesco about?
3) Why do you want to work for Tesco?
4) What is retail?
5) What are our competitors doing well that we could do?
6) How would you improve your local store?
7) Have you ever been in a work environment and had your values challenged? What did you do?
8) What is your personal motivation/motto?
9)Have you applied for any other internships?
10) How would your best friend describe you?
Hope this helps :)

Question 1
How would your best friend describe you? This one surprised me a bit.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Tesco (Peking, Peking) in Apr 2013
Interview
It took them 2 weeks to respond to my initial online application by email, which asks me to attend a written test in a near-by city in China (I live in Beijing). I got there and was shocked by the amount of people doing the test. there were approximately 500 people!!!!! Prior to the test, a HR lady did a presentation on Tesco. Then, we were asked to do to an exam room where everyone had to take the written test without the light on (It was quiet dark in that room). The most surprising bit was that we had to do the test on my laps, there were no tables in the room!!!!!! This was simply unacceptable!!!!!
The tests are in English, and are divided into three parts: 1. loads of single choice questions on general knowledge about Tesco: who is our CEO? how many stores do we operate around the world? and in which country? etc. 2. numerical test: I dont recall all the questions but they seem to be directly related to the job since all questions are on the topic of profit margin, discount etc. 3. Reading comprehension: they are all 'Yes', 'No' and 'Not Given' type of questions, similar to GMAT.
I am sure I have not passed the tests which was taken 3 weeks from now coz I heard from people who did it before that the company would never get back to you if you did not get through.
