I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Kaiser Permanente (Santa Clara, CA) in Jun 2012
Interview
I received a recruiters phone call after submitting my resume, application, and cover letter online and was given a date for an in-person interview in a couple of weeks time. I was surprised to learn that the interview was a "group interview". Something less suited for an inpatient psychiatric care position and better suited to a sales associate job at a large chain store. At the interview I was appalled to find that job candidates were asked to wait with members family in a lobby while a hiring manager discussed the job. Since he was not accustomed to working with people in crisis he made all sorts of inappropriate comments.

Question 1
The questions were pretty common; Describe three characteristics of a good psychiatric technician and tell why they are important. And completely designed to reveal the personality of the applicant; What movie best describes you and why.

Interview
Contacted the hiring director directly as well as putting in an online application. Interviewed with the hiring manager, then with the staff who report to me. Mostly used a behavioral question format. It helps to find out the name of the hiring manager and call that person directly. The hr people don't always pass reumes and applications on in a timely manner.
